The challenge

Public sector cuts and a general tightening of belts and purse strings across the UK means that funding for charities and social purpose organisations is under increased pressure, right at a time when need for the products and services they deliver is rising.

In 2011 Sidekick Studios approached Nominet Trust, one of the UK's most progressive sources of philanthropic capital, with a challenge - help us help the third sector make use of the revolution sweeping through the online world by creating a new type of hands-on design and technology product incubator.

Our approach

Sidekick School is a first of its kind educational experience and hands-on design and build service for the third sector to help organisations build digital products that help them make money AND deliver social impact, whilst teaching the organisation new skills around digital product design and management.

We've got a simple, no nonsense approach to finding organisations to partner with. We simply ask them to complete a short online form outlining the social problem they're trying to solve. If we like this, we'll ask them to a chemistry meeting, and if that goes well we write a proposal.

If we go ahead, the product incubation process we'll use to create the products brings together everything we know about building digital products that make money, changes lives and put a smile on your face. The outcome
